PRIVACY AND ANONYMITY OF HINTS

psHint.com is a trusted, private channel for honest advice — solicited or volunteered, anonymous or otherwise.
Hints on psHint.com are not public; they are private and confidential, unless you decide to share them with others.
This means that Hints and private replies —when created, sent, or received— are viewable and searchable only by the sender and intended recipient.

PRIVACY OF ACCOUNTS ON PSHINT.COM

To fully protect your personal identity, we encourage you to use a nickname or an alias when creating an account (instead of using your real name).
We also encourage you to upload an avatar image instead of your real photo.
When you create an account on psHint.com, you will create a nickname for yourself (i.e. pseudonym) that your hint recipients will see.
Your real name (if specified in your profile) and email address will not appear anywhere in your correspondence with others.
Your username to log in to psHint.com is your email address, which is never shared with the recipients of your hints or replies, or with anyone else for that matter.
When you create a new psHint, typically you will send it to someone you already know in real life. When sending the psHint, you will enter the real email address of your intended recipient. You will also address them with their real name. However recipients of your psHints will not see your real name or email address; they will only see your nickname.
If you happen to send a psHint to a recipient who has an account on psHint.com already, you will not see the recipient's nickname if the latter replies to you. Instead, you will see the same name you used in addressing the recipient. Why? Because we will not associate the recipient's real name with their psHint nickname, thus protecting everyone's identity.
Similarly, when you receive a new psHint from another member, it means that the hinter already knows your real name and your real email address. But they don't necessarily know your nickname on psHint.com. We will never reveal to them your nickname if you reply to the hint.

INDIRECT 1-ON-1 COMMUNICATION

There is no direct email communication between a hinter and a recipient, whether for new hints or subsequent replies.
All messages between hinter and recipient are handled by psHint.com, using our system messenger psHint Schlepper at: ps @ pshint dot com
This means that your email address is never used to send a hint or to reply to the intended recipient.
To prevent notifications from psHint.com accidentally landing in your SPAM folder, we encourage you to add our system messenger psHint Schlepper to your address book: ps @ pshint dot com

DATA WE COLLECT

When you use psHint.com, we automatically receive information from you such as the type of device you’re using and your IP address.
In your personal profile, you have the option of sharing additional information with us such as your gender. In this case, your gender will also be shared with the recipients of your hints, which might encourage them to warm up to your hints and be more receptive to "hinting" with you.
Any basic information we collect is used to keep your account secure and to generate aggregate, anonymous statistics about platform usage by all our members.

DATA PRIVACY

psHint.com is owned by Happometer Corporation, a company registered in the United States and based in Boston.
psHint.com is a global platform with members across the world.
Privacy rights on social media are not guaranteed in the United States. From a legal perspective, the U.S. does not provide or protect a reasonable expectation of privacy the way Iceland does or the European Union does.
It is a documented fact that the US government is able to access the data of any online user on any server located in the U.S. without the consent or knowledge of the user.
In contrast, Iceland is heavily integrated into the European Union via the European Economic Area and the Schengen Agreement, but it is not a member state.
Iceland has the most progressive data-privacy laws in the world with attractive safeguards against widespread surveillance by governments.
To maximize the data privacy of our members, we decided to locate psHint.com's databases in a secure data center in Iceland.

UPDATES TO PRIVACY POLICY

As psHint.com evolves overtime, this Privacy Policy may be revised.
We shall notify you on the home section of your account page about any updates to this policy. We might also notify you via the email address associated with your account.
By continuing to access or use psHint.com after any such policy changes and corresponding notifications, you will effectively agree to the updated Privacy Policy.
