  • In contrast, from a legal perspective, the U.S. does not provide or protect a reasonable expectation of privacy on social media the way Iceland or the European Union do.
Hinting
I'm new to the psHint interface. How do I get help?
Most forms and pages have a question mark icon that displays helpful details when you hover on it. Try this icon now: ?Useful information appear here!
Can I send a hint to anyone I know?
Yes, you can. Just enter their real name and correct email address on the hint form. Hinting to people you don't know is discouraged.

That's up to you. Hint types range from whistleblowing and confession, or giving praise and advice, to denouncing ethical/moral conducts, bullying, or bad habits.
How do I entice the recipient to open my hint?
The hint form designates up to three fields as trust clues. Such clues assure the recipient that you know him/her and you're not a spammer. Specify unique clues that aren't general or commonly found on the recipient's LinkedIn page for example.
How do I gain the trust of the recipient?
Be frank, empathetic, and constructive with the genuine desire to improve your and the recipient's lot, even if your hint is critical of the recipient.
How do I know if the recipient opened my hint?
Each hint and reply on your wall has a eye to indicate the open status.
Can I send a reminder about unopened hints?
Yes. Reminders must be at least four days apart. If you click the reply icon or the chain icon , the application will display a «send reminder» hyperlink.
Can I reply to a hint I received?
Yes, you are encouraged to reply and acknowledge hints. Just hit the reply icon and drive from there. Your replies are not restricted in length.
How can I hint away without exposing my identity?
Always ask yourself, how would my counterpart perceive the hint?
  • Is the hint (and subsequent replies) focused on the one fact you wish to tackle?
  • Don't divulge extra information that makes it easier to guess who you are.
  • Don't use vocabulary or a writing style that you normally use.
  • Don't use a nickname that gives away your name.
  • Don't use your actual photo as your account avatar!
Hinting best practices
Sincere, well-meaning people can have disagreements about work, relations, or family dynamics. We encourage you to:
  • Write persuasively and compassionately.

  • Do not use profance language and obscenities.
  • Send good vibes in your hints while adding a little intrigue and fun to everday interactions.
  • Be clever in framing your messages to encourage acceptance and potential replies.
  • Before clicking the send button, put yourself in your counterpart's shoes first.

Who can view my rating scores?
Anyone who receives a hint from you may view your profile scores.
Rating best practices
A genuine hint is an attempt to elevate the truth. Fairness in rating is of essense.
  • Ratings should be based on the content of the hinter's messages to you.
  • If an honest hint puts you on the defensive, we urge you not to use ratings as punishment.
  • Successive ratings given to the same hinter may suggest abuse of the algorithm and won't be tolerated.
Restricting
What's a restricted hint?
Moderation in length is essential until recipients are interested in hearing more from you. Therefore each new hint is always restricted to up to 150 characters by default.
How do I remove the restriction on a specific hint?
After sending the hint, the recipient might unrestrict you right away. You also have the option of requesting the removal of the restirction in a subsequent reply if the recipient engages with you.
What's your policy on profane language?
Our profanity filter doesn't like slurs and hurtful, offensive, or curse words in messages. We do our best to maintain a dignified exchange between our members by constantly refining the algorithm.
Why have restrictions at all?
psHint.com is not a carte-blanche to dump on people. Initial restrictions on the length of a new hint keep the substance focused on the subject of the hint. Both the restriction and the rating feature help all members of psHint.com be responsible hinters.
Blocking
What if I don't want to hear from someone again?
No problem. Use the block member icon to effectively prevent a hinter from sending future hints and replies to you.
I changed my mind, can I unblock someone?
Yes. Use the unblock icon to reverse the blockage status.
